Munaf Part-tail??

The first India-England test got over yesterday and what a bore it was! After being in the box seat at the end of day 1, India conceded the advantage to Eng, thanks to our inability in taking apart the England tail. It is not the first time though. Who can forget the Vettoris and Dion Nashs making merry at India's expense (not to forget Gillespie@Chennai). This probably is because India doesnt have a tear-away fast bowler. All said and done, having a genuine quickie is definitely a shot in the arm when dealing with tailenders. Hope Munaf fits in!

PS: Would have loved it if England had won. They really did deserve to win.

The shocking news came out a coupla days ago. There will be no entrance exam for engg/med exams in TN decision. I couldn't have imagined anything worse, considering that the quality of engg education in TN has already reached pathetic levels. Anyways, life goes on and its yet another day of Ctrl+C,Ctrl+V for me. :-)

Meeting an Olympian.....

Haven't been blogging in a while partly due to the lack of an interesting topic to write. Went shopping around the famed Pondy bazaar with a friend during the weekend. Bought a pair of shoes for myself. It was only when I came out of the shop that I noticed a familiar looking face entering the complex. After ransacking my brain cells, I concluded that it was Mohammed Riaz, former Indian hockey player- an Olympian and an Arjuna awardee. I immediately told my friend of this and he asked me to the person himself and verify. I had to wait for Mr.X to end his conversation on his mobile. I went near him and asked him if he was Riaz. The answer was an emphatic YES. I shook hands with him and told him it was an honour to shake hands with an Olympian. To which he smiled tamely. An interesting thought occured to me when I came out of the complex. Had it been a Mr.A or Mr.B who had represented India in cricket, there wud have been a huge crowd there and there wud have been a hulla bulla. But here was a hockey player, who at the peak of his career was one of the pillars of the Indian hockey team, who went unnoticed simply because he wasnt a cricketer. What a pity!

Of meeting old friends

Hi ppl, haven’t been able to write of late partly due to bad health and partly due to restricted internet access. Had a gr8 experience yesterday. Got in touch with an old friend after almost 8 years (through orkut). Spoke to her on phone. Was an absolutely extraordinary feeling. It’s the third time in the recent past that I’m meeting a friend from school. Hope I get to meet more of them in the future. Thanx orkut!

Had a PD course at Nungambakkam Haddows club for 3 days. Our trainer was one Ms.Lalitha, a freelance consultant and visiting faculty at leading b-schools like ISB,IIMB and IIMK.. We had gr8 fun while learning team dynamics, positive attitude blah….blah…blah. And coz of this I dint have access to a comp for 5 days (including the weekend).
Attended the CL free mock analysis last Saturday. After a few mins, I started speaking to the guy sitting next to me. It was only towards the end that I realized he was none other than Anil a.k.a Maverick, the no-nonsense mod of PG forums. It’s the first time I’m meeting a PGite outside a PG meet.

Why cricket sucks

Of late, cricket has been really boring. I'm watching really few matches and am bothering to check out even fewer matches. Suddenly no player seems good enuf and no team is entertaining enuf. Apart from this

1) The whole world is making hulla bulla about the Ganguly ban. I dunno how well Ganguly wud be able to perform if he plays in such an adverse situation (not that he was setting the world ablaze before the controversy).

2) The British media creates a hyperhype on how England is gonna reclaim ashes for the first time in a generation, and Vaughan & Co promptly screw up.

3) A second/third/zillionth string WI team tours Sri Lanka and gets beaten black and blue. Murali picks up 10 wickets for the millionth time and Arjuna Ranatunga seems to have finished writing the first chapters of "How to play Muralitharan".

4) There is no Tendulkar, and Chappel & Co are busy making "We wont take Sri Lanka lightly" sorta statements.LOL!

5) Newspapers are screaming their lungs out on how Pieterson is gonna revive England's fortune(courtesy:Ted Corbett) and how the other English players shud learn from him.

Good if England comes back and gives Aus a run for their money.
Good if India puts up a decent show in SL and doesnt come up with a stupid "Tendulkar's loss did not hamper us" .
But right now, the probability of these events to occur seems to be 0.000x%. LOL!

CL free mock results are out. Dint clear quant cut-offs. Got a 96.xx percentile and a rank of 200. Wud have been in top 100 had I cleared the quant cut offs. Sigh...

Thought I did the CL mock OK, until I went to PG forums . People seem to smashed the paper right,left and center. Its raining 70s and 80s at PG. Shud pull up my socks and start studying.

Career Launcher free mock

Took the free mock offered by Career Launcher on Sunday at Loyola College, Chennai. I went there with literally zero prep. Was contemplating writing the mock during the journey to Loyola. It was a huge crowd. Went inside the exam hall well in advance. Took a place under the fan:-P. Started with DI and did it for a little less than half an hour. TO my surprise, the DI section turned out to be an absolute darling. Attempted 27 marks. Surprisingly, I did the 2 pointers with much more comfort than the 1 pointers. And I din't attend even a single DS/LR question. Then turned to my nemesis, quant. Attempted just 5 Qs in the first 15 minutes. Then turned to the 2 pointers in QA. Did a Time-speed problem set. My attempts in QA were worth 19 marks. I had around 40 minutes left for VA/RC. Started off with VA as usual. Did some good guessing. Did the two pointers with decent comfort. The surprise package was the poetry comprehension. Since I was running out of time and it had five 2-pointers, I decided to go for it. Did some guessing again and attempted all 5 questions.

Watched Ullam Ketkume on Saturday. It has completed 50 days at the B.O. So, it wasn't a huge problem getting a ticket. The movie was pretty decent overall. My movie-watching has come down drastically ever since I started working, with the whole day being spent at office & my laziness preventing me from going to theatres on weekends. But I promise the Tamil Thirai ulagam that I'll be more regular in my movie watching from now on. LOL!

Hmm....so I've decided to blog & registered with blogger as well. Now comes the biggest problem-what to write? Do I write about my day to day activities or somethig else? I guess thsi problem shud have been faced by quite a few people when they first took to blogging.

Its the Aussies again. England promised to put up a fight, but submitted tamely in the end. All credit to McGrath&Co. And by the looks of it, its gonna be another bashing for England (kick Ted Corbett in the ass:-P). And its time English batsmen learnt how to play Warne.LOL!
